Sandy Straits Scenic & Wildlife Cruise

Our Sandy Straits Scenic & Wildlife cruise is a unique, 5hr cruise into the heart of the internationally protected Great Sandy Marine Park - the only tour to explore the southern expanses of the park.

We'll visit cultural and historic destinations such as; Woody Island, North White Cliffs, Ungowa and Garry's Anchorage (located approximately halfway to Tin Can Bay). All whilst keeping our eyes peeled for the abundance of wildlife that frequents the area and maybe the elusive Fraser Island Dingo or dugong!

Experience the beauty of the area as we cruise past swathes of mangrove, sand cliffs and sand flats abound with sea and birdlife.

Learn the history of early settlers and logging of the region and the Ramsar wetland of international importance under marine park protection. Seabirds and shorebirds are a vibrant feature of this World Heritage area. They occupy a range of habitats, including the mouths of creeks and estuaries, rocky ocean foreshores, sand spits, and sandy beaches.

We'll cruise through the pristine waters along the west coast for Fraser Island, passing Mangroves, Sand Cliffs and sand flats where the wilderness is abound with sea and bird life. Keep your eyes peeled for the famous Fraser Island dingos.

Departing from the Boat Club relax and wildlife spot as we cruise through the Great Sandy Straits to the famous Gary’s Anchorage, located approximately half -way to Tin Can Bay.

The cruise was very good value. The crew were friendly and helpful. The food was modest but adequate. Even though there were only a handful of guests, the captain didn’t cancel the trip. We were quite impressed with the whole day.

A great dat out which wasn’t easy for the crew as it was raining the entire time! Captain Phil & Josie looked after everyone really well. The boat leaves via the boat club. So you wait in air conditioned comfort. The Sandy Straits and all the islands are beautiful and historical. I saw assorted birds including tiny ones which had flown halfway around the world! I also saw 3 stingrays up close to Fraser Island. Lots of transportation submerged and on the edge of the island which make great diving spots to see the marine life. Morning tea & lunch was good. There was also a good assorted of drinks, snacks and souvenirs. The Barefoot Moscato was delicious and the canned drinks were icy cold. It only got a 4/5 because it was a rainy day the boat showed signs of leaking (around doors & windows. The boat was very safe.

Excellent cruise. Well skippered. Great local knowledge from boat operator and staff. Food and drinks were the best that could be done under the virus circumstances. 5 hour cruise was not too long and not too short. Just enough people on board. Boat correct for the job. Safe trip.
